Maple Grove Developments, part of the Eric Wright Group, has been selected by Blackburn with Darwen Council as the preferred development partner for the former markets’ site in Blackburn town centre.

Following the demolition of the covered market building in 2013, the 3.75-acre site is currently used as a public car park. Designed by DLA Architecture, the proposal is for a retail-led mixed-use scheme which will help to strengthen Blackburn’s existing shopping offer by providing a small number of large retail floorplates in the town centre. Jim Carter, Deputy Chair of the Eric Wright Group Limited and Chairman of Maple Grove Developments Limited, has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire.

Jim will join the existing team of Deputies who help and support the Lord-Lieutenant in his duties as Her Majesty The Queen’s representative in the county of Lancashire.

A Master of Laws and a Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Jim has been with the Eric Wright Group since 1986.   (more…)

Car showroom Autolab and retailer Home Bargains will each take space at Wainwright Way, Blackburn, after agreeing terms with the development arm of the Eric Wright Group.

The sales of the two parcels of land were facilitated under a development agreement Maple Grove has with Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Prestige and custom car specialist Autolab has agreed to buy a 0.84-acre site, which fronts King Street and Freckleton Street, to develop a new car showroom and sales operation on the town centre side of Wainwright Way. The locally-based business is using the new location to facilitate its expansion. (more…)

I have been involved in Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Property and Construction Group for four years since 2015. At the time I was working as Development Director at Salford City Council and was asked to join the group to bring in a public sector angle. Maple Grove Developments, part of The Eric Wright Group, has announced further lettings to a string of national retailers at its £13million retail development in Hattersley, Tameside.

Home Bargains (15,000 sq ft), Greggs (1,000 sq ft), and Card Factory (1,250 sq ft), have all signed up to Hattersley Retail Park, which secured a reserved matters planning consent in July last year.  The news comes after Lidl announced it was to be the scheme’s anchor, taking a 19,310 sq ft food store along with Costa Coffee who are taking the1,800 sq ft drive-thru.
