Construction of a new £14million retail development in Hattersley, Tameside is one step nearer after a development agreement was signed between Maple Grove Developments, and Peak Valley Housing Association.

The nine-acre district centre on Stockport Road, located just off the M67, will comprise up to 14 shopping, food and beverage units in sizes from 1,250 sq ft to 26,000 sq ft.

Interest in the scheme is already proving extremely high and talks are underway with a number of leading national retailers that will help to enhance the profile of Hattersley as a great place to live and work.

Andrew Dewhurst of Maple Grove Developments, said: “We’ve been working closely with our public sector partners to develop a scheme that meets local need and delivers inward investment and economic benefits by providing a good range of retail, leisure and commercial opportunities.

“Being selected as the lead developer from a number of bidders is testament to our experience in creating significant urban regeneration schemes that deliver real change to the people who live and work there as well as attracting new residents, and we look forward to work getting underway on site.”

Phil Corris, Managing Director of Peak Valley, said: “The appointment of Maple Grove marks another crucial step in the regeneration of the Hattersley and Mottram estate. This development will create much needed employment opportunities for local people and will vastly improve the retail offer in the area. It will breathe new life into a large site which has proved difficult to bring to the market and has been an eyesore for years.”

Reid Rose Gregory and Bradys of Manchester are the appointed letting agents for the scheme, which is expected to start on site in 2018.
