Maple Grove Developments’ £8.5m Albion Place scheme in Skipton, has been recognised as the best property development in Yorkshire over the last 12 months.

The Insider Yorkshire Property Industry Awards recognise the achievements of those individuals and firms whose skill, creativity and sheer determination have stood out over the last year.

The development, designed by local architects, Bowman Riley reflects both the historic layout of Skipton town centre, as well as picking up key materials from its surroundings within its construction.

The site was developed within the Historic Conservation Area and comprises three elements; two units fronting the High Street, the main development fronting the town centre car park and a new public open space, named Museum Yard.

The scheme is anchored by a large Next Store, with other operators including Chevin Cycles, Cotwold Outdoors, Cotton Traders, Dawsons Department Stores, Pavers and Pizza Express which opened at Easter 2014.

Chris Evenson, Managing Director for Maple Grove Developments, commented “We are thrilled to win this award and receive recognition for what was a challenging site in a historic market town. We always try to work alongside our consultants to deliver projects which, whilst meeting the requirements, are unique to the site and respect its setting, local materials and style of architecture..

“Skipton is a prime example of this, where we have employed a local architect to help in the delivery of the scheme and utilised a large amount of local materials such as stone from a local quarry in Bingley.

“The scheme was developed in consultation with local stakeholders and English Heritage, who praised the scheme for its design content.

“We are pleased for all concerned that this has led to the scheme being recognised by this award it is a testament to the hard work put in by all the consultants and team involved.”
