Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility is at the forefront of culture and policy at the Eric Wright Group, which includes Maple Grove Developments. We recognise the social and environmental implication of our activities and take responsible action to ensure our staff, our local community and those in areas of influence from our business are considered and supported.

100% of the shareholding in the Eric Wright Group is owned by the Eric Wright Charitable Trust, a charitable body that was established on principals of sustained employment and community regeneration. We achieve this through the reinvestment of time, money and resources.

The Group has adopted a long term strategy with regard to company growth, emphasising wider benefits from the operation of the company over quick profit. Ongoing relationships with employees, clients and stakeholders, and care for the environment ultimately leads to a more rounded approach to business and its effect on the community and the individuals associated with it.

Support for Charities

Over and above the work of the Charitable Trust, many charitable and community events are also directly supported by the Eric Wright Group.

We support local charities such as Derian House and the St Catherine’s Hospice by hosting, sponsoring or participating in fund raising events, such as raffles, coffee mornings, and sponsored sporting activities. One such event that we have proudly sponsored each year is the ‘Symphony at the Tower’, held at Houghton Tower in Preston. We are also ongoing sponsors of the Galloways Eyecan Awards and the Rosemere Cancer Foundation Walk in the Dark.

Our employees are encouraged in their charitable interests and match funding is awarded for any charitable activities undertaken outside of the workplace.

Chairman, Eric Wright, is an Honorary Member of the RICS

Chairman and namesake of the Eric Wright Group, Mr Eric Wright, is an honorary member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and one of only 200 chartered surveyors to hold the HonRICS accolade – an elite peerage that includes HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

There are more than 100,000 chartered surveyors worldwide and Honorary Membership of RICS is conferred by RICS’ International Governing Council on a handful of eminent individuals whose role and standing will enhance the profession by association. As a member, Mr Wright is an ambassador for RICS and has the proud duty of promoting excellence in the surveying profession.

Speaking of Mr Wright’s achievement, RICS president, Alan Collett, said:

“I am extremely pleased that RICS has decided to honour Eric in this way.

“The award of HonRICS recognises his outstanding contribution to the property profession, particularly through the work of the Eric Wright Charitable Trust to promote the education and development of young people.

“We are also immensely grateful to Eric for his encouragement to senior members of his organisation to ‘put something back’ into the property profession through active engagement with RICS.”

The Charitable Trust

The Charitable Trust was formed by Eric Wright in 1990, with the initial aim of supporting causes that encourage the education and development of young people. Today, the Eric Wright Charitable Trust has expanded its areas of activity but retains a particular interest in supporting underprivileged youth.

Whilst many commercial organisations donate a proportion of their profits to charitable causes, the ownership of the Eric Wright Group by the Trust has created a unique long-term partnership between the commercial and charitable arms that enables the entire organisation to function in the manner of a social enterprise.

Disadvantaged young people benefit from a wide range of support from the Eric Wright Charitable Trust, including support for vocational training through the Eric Wright Learning Foundation; and use of the Trust’s facility, Water Park Lakeland Adventure Centre, which provides subsidised outdoor educational breaks in Cumbria for the young and disadvantaged.
